What Technologies Do You Use?
We're often asked what technologies we use. In summary: software and hardware from most of the leading industrial automation companies, major ICT vendors, the two key cloud providers, and a number of specialist IoT providers.
Excellent service providers earn that reputation through repetition and practice, success is no accident. Certified, trained partners bring the domain experience and rigour needed for genuine project delivery excellence, and that melting pot of organisations implies different kinds of relationships across the supply chain. What matters most for a successful outcome is an engagement model that secures and binds that entire chain together, Parasyn coordinates with selected partners, both international and local, to bring one orchestrated solution rather than a patchwork.
Partners
Through repetition and practice, good service providers develop techniques that successfully deliver solutions. Vendors generally provide the bulk of the underlying technology; certified, trained partners bring the domain experience and rigour that delivers project excellence on top of it.
A change of guard at a vendor, or constant internal restructuring, can cause real havoc. Just when you've worked out who to call to solve a problem, they're gone, or their title's changed after a merger. When your edge depends on intimate technical support from specific people, it's deeply uncomfortable to lose that knowledgeable contact overnight. Learning everything about a technology vertical sounds like the obvious fix, but technology keeps updating, and no one calls to tell you when something's changed. The real fix is working relationships at both the technical and corporate level, structured and reviewed regularly, so the joint effort survives no matter who moves on.
“I would highly recommend Parasyn, completed the project above and beyond expectations. [Parasyn] added considerable value by recommending best practice. We are likely to introduce this at other plants.”
It isn't always about who sits in your office on any given day. Our technology partners and strategic alliances bring complementary skills that broaden our capability and deepen our resource pool, expanding where we can deliver geographically and strengthening the depth of experience behind every project. Assessment of Technology
To make sure you're getting the best, not just the bleeding-edge, Parasyn uses technology that's open, off-the-shelf, and proven worldwide, technology that has to keep leading the industry and transforming business for the next generation. At any given time, we're usually trialling three or four different software platforms. We take a comprehensive approach to meeting key business objectives with industrial automation and information systems solutions, translating these advanced technologies into real value through our professional solutions, services, and consulting practice.
IT/OT Convergence
Control systems and advanced process control solutions are the bricks and mortar of industrial automation. Enabling enterprise technology platforms, not traditional industrial automation software, but ones that include advanced analytics and integrated data platforms, are revolutionising the full technology lifecycle across plant, process, and digital transformation initiatives. Increasingly, these technologies don't come from traditional industrial automation vendors at all; IT solutions are revolutionising what's historically only ever been Operational Technology. IT/OT convergence is fundamentally about understanding the technology interfaces under one management practice, deploying IT and OT technologies reliably without the silos of who originally supplied them.
Software
Parasyn's middleware software solutions glue SCADA to control system devices, developed in-house to complement our partners' core technology offerings. Both standalone and middleware software solutions demand the same commitment to quality, reliability, and flexibility as client needs keep evolving. Where software drivers haven't met performance requirements, or simply weren't freely available, we've developed them in-house. If you need help with middleware, we can step you through doing it yourself, sourcing it off the shelf, or finding whatever solution actually works for you.
Hardware
Technology selection, lifecycle management, and transition cost are all important parts of building a fit-for-purpose system. For brownfield applications particularly, the cost of transitioning or upgrading part of a system can exceed full replacement cost once ongoing maintenance is factored in, the “touch it once” cost can offset full replacement, so it pays to look beyond a simple update approach, generally grounded in a systems assessment of what's in situ, its useful life expectancy, and the real cost of transitioning out. Some of the services that tease out exactly what's needed:
- Electrical design
- Audits and assessments
- Functional design specifications
- High-availability design
- Power and solar design
- Standards development
